Visiting Brighton & Hove in October? It’s a great time to make a weekend of it.
The summer crowds have eased, autumn has arrived and there’s plenty happening. You’ll find everything from boutique hotels and seafront stays to cosy B&Bs and self-catering apartments. Stay centrally to have plenty on your doorstep, or look towards Hove, Kemptown and Rottingdean for a different side of Brighton & Hove.
If you’re visiting over October half term or Halloween weekend, it’s worth booking ahead.

Get the inside scoop on what’s coming to Brighton, and what locals are raving about
Dust off the lederhosen, dig out the dirndl and get your best “Prost!” ready. Oktoberfest is back in Brighton.
Find everything from beer hall blowouts with long tables, oompah bands and steins the size of your head, to smaller pub nights serving German beer, bratwürste and enough Bavarian fancy dress to make you wonder where everyone keeps it for the other 11 months of the year.
Bookmark this page and subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to hear about the latest Oktoberfest events in Brighton & Hove and other German-inspired shenanigans as they’re announced.

Check out our local guides to make the most of your time in Brighton this autumn.
Planning a family holiday, booking time off or simply want something to look forward to? Explore Brighton & Hove’s events by month to discover festivals, concerts, family days out & seasonal celebrations throughout the year.
We’ve answered the most popular questions related to what’s happening in Brighton & Hove in October.
For Brighton & Hove’s council-maintained schools, October half term runs from Monday 26th to Friday 30th of October. Academies, independent schools and colleges can set different dates, so check before booking anything non-refundable. Halloween falls on Saturday 31st of October, which is very tidy timing.
Halloween has plenty of places to haunt in Brighton & Hove this year. Halloween Trails and Preston Manor is hosting Friday night Ghostly Gatherings throughout October. Halloween falls on Saturday the 31st of October, so book the bigger scares before they disappear.
The Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum, Hove Museum of Creativity and the Palace Pier arcades are perfect family days out when it’s wetter weather. Family shows, craft workshops and Halloween activities will run across the week too. Book timed sessions before everyone else has the same rainy-day plan.
October is properly autumnal, but not necessarily cold. The average daytime high gets to around 15°C with average night-time lows of 8.4°C, with rain on roughly 12 days. Pack layers and a waterproof, then take any sunny seafront afternoon as a win.
Yes, and October brings three Amex dates. Albion’s men host Crystal Palace on Sunday the 18th of October at 2pm. Albion Women also play Charlton Athletic on Sunday the 4th of October and West Ham United on Sunday the 25th of October, both at 2pm. Fixtures can move, so check the club’s latest listings before travelling.
October Unpacked runs throughout the month, bringing food, drink, music, comedy and culture together across Brighton & Hove. Photoworks Festival and Photo Fringe begin on the 2nd of October, while Brighton Early Music Festival runs from 2nd to the 25th of October.
Yes. From the 1st of October to the 30th of April, dogs are allowed on all Brighton & Hove beaches, so the full seafront is back on the walkies map. Keep dogs supervised and under control, clear up after them & remember they must stay on a lead along the promenade.
Yes, Brighton Palace Pier is open in October, although gate times and ride availability can change with the weather. High winds can temporarily stop some rides, so check the live opening information before setting off. The arcades are a handy backup when the seafront gets a little too dramatic.
If it’s a rainy day in Brighton, head for the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum, Hove Museum of Creativity or the Toy and Model Museum. Add an escape room, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, a theatre show or a long lunch. Rain doesn’t halt anything in Brighton, it’s just knowing what’s available to be able to adjust the plan.
The Volk’s Electric Railway is not open during October. Services typically are scheduled to finish on the 30th of September, so trains will not be running in October. The route still makes a good seafront walk, but save the railway ride for next season.
